Project Manager

 

Job Description:

 

The Project Manager will be working under supervision of senior management and will be responsible for managing assigned projects, producing structural calculations and drawings as well as reviewing and certifying construction documents, calculations, reports and letters.  Project management duties will consist of creating fee estimates, preparing proposals, meeting with clients, conducting site visits, scheduling tasks, meeting with building officials, reviewing construction documents and shop drawings and performing other duties as assigned by senior management.  The Project Manager will perform structural calculations to design structural systems using in-house software as well as hand calculations, while construction drawings will be drafted using AutoCAD program.  The Project Manager will provide the technical, organizational and communication skills required to produce well-designed and coordinated construction documents for structural systems.  The Project Manager will assist other engineers where graduate level skills and knowledge are needed, such as seismic design and analysis of tall structures (telecommunication towers), advanced structural analysis, advanced design of steel and concrete structures and similar tasks.  The Project Manager will serve as the in-house expert for AutoCAD and RISA computer programs and will provide operational assistance and training for these computer programs to other staff.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Perform design and analysis of major timber, steel, concrete, masonry and light gage structural framing systems.

  • Analyze and design structural framing for condominium buildings, mid-rise (4 to 10 stories) buildings, warehouses and other commercial and residential structures.

  • Analyze and design telecommunication towers, power line support structures and other telecommunication and power related structures.

  • Delegate tasks to drafters and provide them with technical support as needed.

  • Certify / seal construction documents, calculations, reports and letters.

  • Present design work to clients, project stakeholders and peer review groups.

  • Perform related duties as assigned by senior management.

  • Conduct field measuring and checking at the construction site.

  • Review and certification of documents for accuracy, completeness, and code compliance with standards and codes.  Certify documents as needed for permitting with building officials.

  • Prepare specifications, using in-office word processing software.

  • Using in-office software, preparation of project file updates, transmittals, letters, reports, requests for reproduction services, etc.

  • Coordinate structural trade efforts with other disciplines.

 

Job Requirements:

 

Required Education, Licenses, Certificates and Experience:

  • Master’s degree.

  • 1 year of related Structural Engineering experience as a Project Manager designing buildings up to ten stories high.

  • Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) in the State of Illinois.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE - Civil) in the State of California.

 

Additional Skills Required:

  • 1 year of experience using AutoCAD 2013 or higher, RISA 3D, MathCAD and NCMA Masonry software for purposes of structural design.
